Lyrics

I live in a country that’s still bleeding
From a wound we left to fester past its’ time
This Mason Dixon barbed wire takes its’ feeding
From the stars and bars in Charleston you can’t hide

The Children of the lord have stopped their sermons
Just long enough to ask their father why
Once they had decided on his answer
The AM airwaves filled with hate and lies

America Hallelujah
God is good and Jesus will provide
We’re blinded by our stars, building fences through our yards
Here the sirens sing our children’s lullabies
As we tightly close our eyes, and try to feign surprise

The children in the school yard they did notice
But none of them could look up in surprise
The teachers clasp their hands and shrug their shoulders
As if the thought had never crossed their mind

America Hallelujah
God is good and Jesus will provide
We’re blinded by our stars, building fences through our yards
Here the sirens sing our nation's lullabies
As we tightly close our eyes, and try to feign surprise

Though chains are gone the barbary continues
As empty bed sheets steal our children on both sides
Just a few more drops of blood into that muddy levy dry…
And mothers cry
When will we open up our eyes?
No longer feign surprise

The loved ones and the neighbors of those families
Will go on crying after lights and cameras fade
This nation will remember or we’ll try to
Thank them for their part in our campaign

America Hallelujah
God is great and Reagan will provide
We’re blinded by our stars, building fences through our yards
Here the sirens sing our nation's lullabies
As we tightly close our eyes, and try to feign surprise
So let’s save that hallelujah for when we open up our eyes
